When Broomfield Care Home in Chelmsford required a purpose-built hydrotherapy pool to support resident wellbeing and rehabilitation, Wrightfield Pools was selected to design, manufacture and install a bespoke stainless steel solution tailored to the needs of the facility and its users.

The project centred around the creation of a compact yet highly functional hydrotherapy pool measuring approximately 4m x 3m. Designed specifically for therapeutic exercise, mobility support and gentle rehabilitation, the pool provides a safe and welcoming environment where residents can benefit from the unique properties of water-based therapy.

Designed Around Accessibility

A key requirement of the project was ensuring the pool could be accessed by users with varying levels of mobility. To achieve this, the installation incorporated both traditional access steps and a dedicated disabled access lift.

The lift system, designed and manufactured by Wrightfield Pools, utilises a robust stainless steel scissor-lift mechanism with removable handrails and a non-slip platform. Driven by water hydraulics, the system eliminates the risk of oil contamination while providing smooth, reliable operation for users and care staff alike.

The result is a hydrotherapy facility that can be enjoyed by a wider range of residents, helping to promote independence, confidence and inclusion.

At the heart of the project is a fully welded stainless steel pool shell manufactured at Wrightfield Pools' specialist facility. Constructed using a polished 316-grade stainless steel interior supported by a heavy-duty stainless steel framework, the pool offers exceptional durability, hygiene and longevity.

Unlike traditional tiled pools, stainless steel pools are non-porous, easy to clean and highly resistant to corrosion. Their smooth surfaces minimise maintenance requirements while providing a modern and attractive appearance that complements contemporary care environments.

Every weld is carefully inspected and tested before the pool undergoes comprehensive factory water testing, ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability before installation.

Efficient Operation and Long-Term Performance

The hydrotherapy pool was designed with commercial-grade filtration and water treatment systems located in an adjacent plant room. This ensures excellent water quality, efficient circulation and reduced maintenance demands.

Remote monitoring capabilities provide operators with greater oversight of system performance, helping to maintain optimum operating conditions while reducing operational workload.

To further enhance energy efficiency, the pool shell is insulated following installation and testing, helping to minimise heat loss and reduce running costs throughout the year.
