Ponty Lido, located in Pontypridd, Wales, is a historic outdoor swimming facility originally opened in 1927. Known for its distinctive Art Deco style, the lido quickly became a popular community hub for leisure and recreation. Over the years, the lido experienced periods of decline and closure, reflecting the broader trend of lido closures across the UK.
However, after extensive campaigning and funding efforts, the Lido underwent a major restoration project and reopened in 2015 as the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty. The revitalised facility now features three heated pools and modern amenities and retains its iconic 1920s charm, blending historical elements with contemporary upgrades. Today, Ponty Lido is a vibrant symbol of community spirit and heritage, attracting visitors of all ages for swimming and various outdoor activities.

Project Background
This was a high profile £6.3m regeneration project supported by grant funding from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, Heritage Lottery Fund and Cadw.
Following a tendering process Wrightfield were selected to supply and install 3 custom built pools; a 25m * 17m main pool, a 17m * 9.2m activity pool and a 20.9m * 9.4m splash pad along with filtration, pumps and all the associated pipework that was needed.
The refurbishment of the Lido combined elements of the original building, such as the 1920’s turnstiles and wooden cubicles, along side the best of modern technology with the stainless steel pools and advanced filtration.
