Wrightfield Pools is thrilled to announce the completion of a groundbreaking multi-purpose integrated moving pool floor, expertly designed and installed for the Naenae Pools and Fitness Centre in New Zealand in partnership with Apollo Projects. This state-of-the-art installation marks our fourth pool system in New Zealand, showcasing our engineering expertise and commitment to quality.
The advanced movable floor, measuring 25m x 14m, features a sophisticated indirect drive hydraulic system, 10 lanes with precise markings, and an intuitive HMI screen for seamless operation. This installation is notably the first in New Zealand to include underwater hockey markings, significantly enhancing the facility’s versatility and appeal.
Engineered for longevity and functionality, the floor is built from durable stainless steel and supports a white plastic deck with black lane lines and grey underwater markings. Its buoyant structure is controlled via hydraulic rams and cables, allowing smooth depth adjustments through machined slots in the deck. Maintenance is facilitated by four access hatches, enabling qualified dive teams to service the floor with ease.
The Naenae Pool complex boasts a 50-metre Olympic-sized pool with two movable bulkheads, allowing flexible configuration into multiple zones and depths. The system’s rapid adjustment capability—from 2 metres to 1 metre in about five minutes—demonstrates its user-friendly design and adaptability for various activities.
Hamish Nixon of Apollo Projects praised the system’s versatility, emphasising its efficiency and ease of use via a touch screen panel. In addition to the main pool, a secondary leisure pool offers enhanced accessibility with a shallow section, ramp access, seating, and hydro jets, catering to diverse user needs.
Complementing these features, the facility also includes two hydro slides, numerous pool toys, a bookable poolside birthday party room, a fitness centre, and an outdoor BBQ area, ensuring a wide range of activities for all visitors. Mayor Campbell Barry lauded the project’s attention to detail and long-term benefits for the community, highlighting its role as a significant regional asset.
Kevin Cox, Chief Installer at Wrightfield Pools, remarked, “This is one of the best installations I’ve been part of. It was a real pleasure to be part of the team and to experience the exceptional hospitality and friendship from Apollo Projects. They took great care of us throughout the job – we particularly enjoyed the BBQ and social evenings after a hard day’s work!”
The $68 million Naenae Pool and Fitness Centre project, supported by a $27 million co-funding from Crown Infrastructure Partners, is set to become a cornerstone of community engagement and activity. Alongside the pool complex, the new Naenae Community Centre is nearing completion, with plans to revamp the adjacent Walter Mildenhall Park underway to enhance the area’s recreational offerings further.
